I'm wavering between buying Adobe, THE big Photoshop,
Or just Elements.
I'm a keen amateur photographer, with a new 400d Canon Digital SLR camera. I'll be going to study Photography next year in College,
Can you tell me the pros and cons of Elements v.6, as it's the one i'm thinking of getting it?
Or would I be better off getting the full version?

The line of Photoshop Elements has always been a very powerful program. It has everything that you will need to do photo editing and more. All Photoshop programs are not the kind of program that you open the box and start producing outstanding results. Elements, just like its big brother will require some learning. Elements has everything the full versions have -- except -- masks, curves, paths, history brush, smart objects, editable styles, and the ability to write actions (macros if you have used in a word processor or spreadsheet program). (Masking can be done in Elements but "Masks" is a specific function in the full version.) However, it has some things that the full version does not have. It has batch processing that will change the format, size, name and sharpen images files contained in a folder. The Move tool and Transformation tool are together as one. I find it much better than the full version separate functions. It has a set of frames that can be chosen at print time, creation templates for cards. And probably more that I can't bring to mind right now.
Within the last year, I bought CS2 and took two classes on how to get the most out of it. Curves wasn't even included in the lessons. Curves and Levels are sorta the same and emphasis is placed on Levels. Elements of course has levels. Download PSE6 for a free 30 day trial. I think you will like it, particular if you would rather spend $100 more so than close to $700. When you outgrow Elements, then you can move up to the full program.
