Quickie answers:

Magic eraser tool removes consecutive pixels of the same color. Good for removing areas of background but leaving the main subject intact. However, if the main image includes the color you're removing and the pixels are touching you will lose some of your subject as well.

Sponge tool is used for removing color intensity from a single area without disturbing the entire image.

Liquify:

Thaw tool is used once you're finished using the freeze tool. The freeze tool leaves a colored shield over whatever area you used it on. The thaw tool erases the frozen part without altering your image.

Reflection tool creates a mirror image of whatever area you pass your brush over.

Shift pixel, shifts pixels based on the size brush you choose.

The best way to figure out Photoshop is to just get in there and experiment. If you do something you don't like just undo it.

**Hint in "Preferences" set the history count to 100 it will give you a longer range of "undo" options. The default setting is 4 and when you're first learning Photoshop only being able to go back 4 edits is like a joke.
