Photoshop 6. At 100% Photoshop says it's 5" high and when I edit image size it says the same thing, but when I measure it on the screen with a ruler it says 4" even when I bring it into FrontPage to view.
I resized 100s of photos and saved them to 5" high at 72 dpi how do I get them to be 5" high on screen??
I'm using Photoshop to resize pics for the web. It says it's 5" high but it's 4" when I measure the screen....nortin
There are two things going on here that you need to understand. First, 72 dpi is a printer resolution, not a screen resolution. Photoshop doesn't resize directly for a particular screen size because the image must be measured in pixels, not dpi to resize for a screen and the size of an image measured in pixels depends on the resolution you have your screen set for 640x480, 600x800, etc. When an image size is measured in pixels, it will be larger on a low resolution screen and smaller on a high resolution screen. It will also be different sizes on different sized monitors. A fifteen inch monitor set to 800x600 will show a picture that is a larger portion of the screen than a 17 inch monitor set to the same resolution
If you want to resize to pixels in photoshop you can, but you will have to use some trial and error to find out how many pixels it takes to make five inches on your screen. If the picture is later opened on larger or smaller screens or screens with a different resolution it will be a different size.
To learn to resize to a particular number of pixels open photoshop, click on help and use the search function to search for "Resizing the image during optimization." It's pretty easy to do, but may not produce exactly the results you are hoping for. That's just the way it is with a program that has to work well for lots of different screen sizes set to lots of different resolutions.
