Photoshop questions?

If I crop out an object to layer it onto another photo, what steps do I take to make this new object transparent?

also..

What steps do I take to put TWO photos side by side on one picture?

I used to know this but I have forgotten over the years, any link to photoshop tuturals would be great also.

In the layers window, either give the top layer transparency, or set it to "multiply"

To put two side-by-side, from "image" pull down to canvas size. Change the size to whatever you need to fit both images. Then copy the second image onto a new layer, slide it into position, then flatten the image.

you want to select object with lasso tool, copy, and paste in new layer over other image, before making layer transparent, adjust and edit edges,

to put two images together, expand or resize canvas from one size of image to two, like 4x6 plus 4x6 images would be 8 x6 canvas for back ground then paste images in new layers and move into place,
